Screen Daily has reported that french produced Charles Gillibert and Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Switchblade Romance) have acquired adaptation rights to bestseller In a Perfect World, written by American author Laura Kasischke.
Described as terrifying, haunting and oddly exhilarating, Kasischke’s In A Perfect World revolves around newly-married former flight attendant Jiselle, who is surviving life as a new stepmother to three children whilst her husband is detained oversees. The step children view her with derision, pity and outright hostility despite her hard end efforts to care for them. Their lives are altered forever when a deadly flu epidemic breaks out and thrusts the family into a situation where isolation, survival, sickness and death become a part of everyday life.
In a joint announcement, Gillibert and Aja were quoted saying: “In a Perfect World is a suspense novel that holds all the emotional layers of a rich family drama, a world where terror, beauty and chaos walk hand in hand. A dystopian family drama, set in an environment of doom”.
