Back in February at EFM, Lionsgate acquired UK distribution rights to Hammer’s new supernatural horror, The Quiet Ones. No release date was given at the time, but IMDB has a date of October 31st 2013 listed.
However, on the eve of the Cannes film festival, Lionsgate have struck another deal for North American distribution rights to the film, and have also given an official US release date of April 25th 2014. Lionsgate made the deal with Exclusive Media.
Directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2: The Terminal) and written by Tom de Ville, Oren Moverman, Craig Rosenberg and John Pogue, The Quiet Ones stars Jared Harris, Sam Claflin, Olivia Cooke, Erin Richards, Rory Fleck-Byrne and Laurie Calvert.
The Quiet Ones (inspired by true events) tells the story of an unorthodox professor who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist. Based on the theory that paranormal activity is caused by human negative energy, the rogue scientists perform a series of tests on a young patient, pushing her to the edge of sanity. As frightening occurrences begin to take place with shocking and gruesome consequences, the group quickly realizes they have triggered a force more terrifying than they ever could have imagined.
