The talk of Ghostbusters 3 has gone on and on and on, and I think most of us are getting pretty fed up hearing that one minute Bill Murray is possibly going to be in it, and the next minute we hear he is not. It has been clear from the start he won’t be coming back, and if you really want to know what’s been happening over the last year or so, then click here for the constant ups and downs.
However, Dan Aykroyd is determined to get the third film made, and he keeps fighting on, and the last we heard was that the film was going to be filming early next year. We now have some more news on the film, including some plot details thanks to Aykroyd who revealed all on the Larry King Now show.
“It’s based on new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University. … There’s research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence—length, height, width and time—become threatened by some of the research that’s being done. Ghostbusters, newGhostbusters, have to come and solve the problem.”
Obviously we all know by now that the third film, if it ever gets made, will feature a cast of new, young Ghostbusters, and Aykroyd touched on the new cast by offering up this juicy piece of evidence:
“We’re going to have to cast. We need four new ghostbusters. We need four new Columbia students,” excuse my sarcasm but, well, DUH!!
Aykroyd then joked with Larry King about the possibility of him returning in the third film (in the original he briefly played himself), and offered up the following proposition for him: Of course, we’re going to be doing you in your new format as you comment on what’s happening in Manhattan up there at Morningside Heights. It’s going to be quite a spectacular scene once the stuff starts to break.”
He finally spoke about Bill Murray’s return (this is getting boring now) and offered up the same story that we have been hearing for years: “He’s a good friend, I love him, he just doesn’t want to reprise the role. However, there will be a hole for him. If Billy wants to walk in the door and be in the movie, we will find a place.”
I’m sorry but I want a Ghostbusters 3 as much as the next person, but this constant teasing and sharing possibly ideas just gets annoying when nothing ever actually happens. Yet, this is the first piece of news we have had on this for some time, and Aykroyd is sounding positive, so maybe, just maybe something is actually happening?
Until the next piece of news on this…
