Disney finally moving forward with ‘Alice in Wonderland’ sequel

Variety is reporting that Disney are finally moving forward on their sequel to Tim Burton’s brilliant Alice in Wonderland. Starring Johnny Depp (as The Mad Hatter) and Mia Wasikowska (as Alice), the 3D film grossed a massive $1 billion worldwide, and is even being developed into a musical by Disney Theatrical Prods, with Rob Ashford set to direct based on a script written by Linda Woolverton (who wrote Burton’s film).

The sequel is going by the working title ‘Into the Looking Glass’ and Woolverton is returning to write the film, while producers Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd are also returning.

There is no news on which of the cast will return, but it would be a no brainer for Depp to reprise his role of The Mad Hatter.

Disney are currently in talks with James Bobin to direct the sequel. Bobin recently directed The Muppets for Disney, and is also directing the sequel, The Muppets… Again, so he has the experience, but he won’t be able to match Burton’s unique brilliance, which is a shame.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
