Today’s teaser trailer is simply teasing the full length trailer which is due to arrive next Tuesday, May 7th, so be sure to check back here then to see the full trailer. For now we get an introduction by Ford and Butterfield, followed by a very brief, but very exciting piece of footage.
That is not all that has been revealed this week. A few days ago EW revealed the first image of Sir Ben Kingsley, who stars in the film as Mazer Rackham. The image showed Rackham with all his tribal warrior tattoos, but also showed that he has now become an officer thanks to the uniform he is now wearing. “Every gesture in the tattoo carries family history, family struggles — it’s your past,” Kingsley told Entertainment Weekly. “I was so enthralled. He’s in quite a contained, stylized uniform but then this wonderful face tells his warrior history.”
“In the script, which I think is beautifully written, what come across is the authority and mystery,” he said of Rackham. “There’s quite a lot said about him in the story before you see him — by the recruits and by his fellow officers — and that’s useful as far as preparations.”
Ender’s Game is due to land in UK cinemas on 25th October.
Directed by Gavin Hood (who also wrote the screenplay), Ender’s Game is adapted from the novel written by Orson Scott Card. The cast includes Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Asa Butterfield, Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld, Moises Arias, Viola Davis, Nonso Anozie and Andrea Powell.
In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth,” the synopsis reads. “If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.
Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.
