If you are looking forward to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, then we have some great stuff here for you! First and most importantly, Warner Brothers have unleashed an amazing new trailer which features tons of giant robots vs monsters action, and I mean tons of it.
Brought together by a rousing score, and Idris Elba’s now classic speech which ends on “today, we are cancelling the apocalypse!!”, this new trailer is the best yet. Mega fight after mega fight feature in the trailer as we get a sneak peak at some new Kaiju, and the Jaegar robots also get a full run down on how they work. Basically this trailer is awesome, very effective, and the sort of trailer that gives you goose bumps. In the cinema this trailer will be astonishing! My only concern is that we don’t end up seeing too much, it is best the new footage stops here.
We also have two brand new images from the film for you. The first see’s a massive skeleton skull of a fallen Kaiju kept in a museum, and the second see’s San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge destroyed after a Kaiju attack. The images and trailer can be found at the bottom of this post.
We can also reveal some of del Toro’s plans for the films sequel, as he recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about where he intends to go with Pacific Rim 2. Del Toro told the magazine the he and writer Travis Beacham plan to delve deeper into the alien forces who brought the Kaiju to Earth. “They’re a race of blind consumers grabbing planets, consuming them, and then moving on to the next,” says Del Toro. “The idea with the sequel is to explore a little bit of that.”
Directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by Travis Beacham, Pacific Rim stars Idris Elba (Prometheus), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Charlie Hunnam (Horrible Bosses), Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr, Rinko Kikuchi and Robert Maillet.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Pacific Rim will open in 3D, IMAX 3D and 2D theatres on July 12, 2013.
