See, I though Seth MacFarlane was a breath of fresh air hosting the Oscars this year. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed his hosting skills and dangerous comedy, and I also felt it did wonders in showing the world that The Academy are not just a bunch of old farts. MacFarlane was superb, and I would welcome his return to host the Oscars next year.
Sadly though, that is not going to happen. MacFarlane said so a month ago, yet the producers of the Oscars (Craig Zadan and Neil Meron) have once again begged for the comedy genius to come back. Sadly MacFarlane once again declined their offer, Tweeting:
“Traumatized critics exhale: I’m unable to do the Oscars again. Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep. However, I highly recommend the job, as Zadan and Meron are two of the most talented producers in the business. My suggestion for host is Joaquin Phoenix.”
Nice to see MacFarlane can still perfectly balance the serious with the funny in that Tweet, but it is a real shame he won’t be back.
MacFarlane is currently filming and starring in his new feature length film, the comedy Western, A Million Ways to Die in the West. The scheduling difficulties probably come from the fact he will be shooting the sequel to Ted later this year.
