Shining Example Films Announce First Details of Final ‘Body Horror’ Short Film, SPLIT

Glasgow-based production company Shining Example Films are proud to announce that SPLIT, the third and final entry in writer/director Andy Stewart’s short “body horror” film trilogy, which began with the award-winning, critically acclaimed DYSMORPHIA, which has been called “A showstopper” by FANGORIA, “a 12-minute masterpiece”, by BLOODY-DISGUSTING and “Quite possibly the greatest short film we have ever seen” by Jen & Sylvia Soska, will begin shooting on August 15th, 2013 at locations in and around Glasgow, Scotland.

Part-funded by a successful Indiegogo crowd-funding drive, SPLIT promises to be the defining entry in the series.

Revolting and bittersweet, disgusting and emotional, while closer in tone and scale to DYSMORPHIA, SPLIT is a single character driven piece, in the tradition of “melt movies” such as “The Incredible Melting Man” and “Street Trash” which charts a man’s deterioration in the aftermath of a traumatic event.

Special Make-Up Effects will be designed and created by Glasgow-based artist Grant Mason, who handled the FX for Trainspotting and Shallow Grave. Grant has also worked on films such as Hardware, Mission: Impossible 2, Sleepy Hollow, Bride of Chucky and Clive Barker’s Nightbreed.

Director Stewart had the following to say, “This is our most adventurous project to date and having Grant, with his expertise and years of experience, onboard is unbelievable and a real honour.”

SPLIT will star Californian actor Austin Hayden, while cinematography will be handled by Mark Boggis.

Still doing the rounds on the festival circuit, DYSMORPHIA will soon be seen at Long Island’s Macabre Faire Film Festival on May 31st and in August at Montreal’s Mascara & Popcorn Film Festival. BANQUET is currently in post-production and will play festivals in Winter 2013.

Formed in January 2013 by Stewart, DYSMORPHIA actor Gordie Holliday and producer Chris Goldie, Shining Example Films have several more horror shorts in the pipeline and hope to shoot their first feature, with Stewart directing from a self-penned script, in 2014.
