With the countdown to the release of Pacific Rim getting closer and closer, Warner Bros. have released another 12 minutes of behind the scenes footage for us to drool over. We can see del Toro clearly at the helm, bringing his vision to life as he directs the cast and more excitingly, we get to see the the giant robots come to life. del Toro has actually built sets to contain the control room of the Jaegers and it really is quite stunning. It’s really refreshing to see this and the amount of effort that has gone in to make the film look real and genuine instead of the complete use of green screens to build scenes on a computer. It simply looks stunning. Check it out below.
Directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by Travis Beacham, Pacific Rim stars Idris Elba (Prometheus), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Charlie Hunnam (Horrible Bosses), Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr, Rinko Kikuchi and Robert Maillet.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
