Lakeshore Entertainment and Lionsgate have announced that Michael Pena will be joining the cast of The Vatican Tapes, as Father Lozano.
The film is rumoured to be very much in the same league as films like The Blair Witch Project and (Rec) and has been described as a demonic thriller. The screenplay has been written by Chris Borelli, and has been adapted from a story written by Borelli and Chris Morgan (Fast Five, 47 Ronin).
The film also stars Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II), Kathleen Robertson (Scary Movie 2), Peter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), John Patrick Amedori (The Last Stand), Alex Sparrow and Olivia Dudley (Chernobyl Diaries).
According to Variety, Dudley will portray a 27-year-old woman who begins to have a devastating effect on anyone who gets close to her. Pena will play the local priest who believes she is possessed, while Hounsou and Andersson will play Vatican officials called in to exorcise the demon. Scott will portray her father. The story is said to center around a series of events that unfold after a tape which displays an exorcism gone wrong gets leaked from the Vatican.
