With just a month to go before Guillermo del Toro’s eagerly awaited Pacific Rim lands, you have to wonder just what else can this aggressive, but exciting marketing campaign have left for us.
Thankfully there is still plenty of cool stuff to go around, and we have here for you an awesome new TV spot, but most importantly an excellent featurette. Firstly the TV spot, and yes it does feature some new footage, and is is an extension of one of the new TV spots we posted yesterday.
However, it is the featurette which is most rewarding here. Running at four minutes, the video has interviews with cast, crew and del Toro (mostly) himself talking about the designs of the massive Jaegar robots. Yes there is plenty of film footage to enjoy, but what is most exciting is hearing del Toro talk about his creations, and how dedicated everyone has been in designing something fresh and original for fans to enjoy. Check out both the TV spot and featurette at the bottom of this post.
Directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by Travis Beacham, Pacific Rim stars Idris Elba (Prometheus), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Charlie Hunnam (Horrible Bosses), Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr, Rinko Kikuchi and Robert Maillet.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Release Date 12th July 2013
