Penelope Cruz is apparently set to star in James Bond 24, according to Yahoo, with the site reporting that she “will start work on the as yet unnamed 24th Bond movie next summer”.
A source told Yahoo’s Liz Hoggard, “The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now.”
With the most recent Bond film, Skyfall, containing jokes about ageing and retirement, the Spanish actress, who is also married to Javier Bardem, will be 40 when the film is released, and has been announced as “the oldest ever Bond girl” overtaking Goldfinger’s Honor Blackman, who was 39 when she played the character of Pussy Galore.
Yahoo also made reference to a supposed budget of £100 million for Bond 24. As reported earlier, Bond 24 and 25 will be directed by Sam Mendes, and will see Daniel Craig’s run as Bond through to the end. Official announcements, including Cruz joining the cast, I’m sure will be imminent. Watch this space.
