I love Ben Whetley’s films! Kill List is without question one of the best British films to have come along in years, and Down Terrace was a refreshing take on the gangster film. Having watched the superb Sightseers recently (review due soon) I can now happily say that Wheatley is without a doubt one of the most exciting, and original filmmakers working in the world today. To say I am stoked to see A Field in England is an understatement, I simply cannot wait a day longer to see it, and today’s new trailer has me eve more hooked on this psychedelic oddity.

A Field in England is set to hit the UK on July 5th, but listen to this! The film will arrive in cinemas, on free TV, VOD and on DVD & Blu-ray all on THE SAME DAY! So basically, you choose where you wish to see it and, you also choose if you want to pay for it! The deal was made  between Film4, Picturehouse Entertainment, 4DVD and the Film4 Channel.

We have tried to innovate with this film,” says Wheatley, “in production and distribution. It’s great to team up with Film4 to make this film and to work with new partners such as Picturehouse and 4DVD. I’m very proud of the results and look forward to sharing the film with the audience.”

“Ben is undoubtedly one of our boldest, brightest and most audience savvy filmmakers,” says Sue Bruce-Smith, Film4?s head of commercial and brand strategy. “It made complete sense to look to develop a project with him that would lend itself to this kind of daring and innovative release. We’re lucky to have found in Picturehouse Entertainment, 4DVD, the Film4 channel and the BFI partners who share our vision to disrupt the status quo and experiment with new distribution patterns, to create this exciting event style release.”

A Field in England is directed by Ben Wheatley, who co-wrote the film with Amy Jump.  Michael Smiley (Kill List), Peter Ferdinando (Tony), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Richard Glover (Sightseers) and Ryan Pope (Ideal) star in the English Civil War set film.

Here is the rather crazy and very exciting synopsis:

England : 1648 AD

A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men: O’Neil and Cutler.

O’Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field.

Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

A Field In England is a psychedelic trip into magic and madness from Ben Wheatley – award-winning director of Down Terrace, Kill List and Sightseers.

The film is written by Amy Jump & Ben Wheatley and produced by Claire Jones & Andy Starke, with Anna Higgs Executive Producer for Film4. Shooting commences late September. Protagonist Pictures are handling international sales.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
