Comic-Con: Karl Urban again talks about ‘Dredd’ sequel

Not a massive amount to get excited about here, but it is obvious from Karl Urban’s words that a Dredd sequel is not completely being ruled out. He was at Comic-Con where, naturally, he was asked again about the possibility of a Dredd sequel:

It’s certainly my hope that we get to make more,” he tells Airlock Alpha. “Clearly it has found an audience. The home video sales for Dredd 3D just went through the roof. I think it sold 650,000 units in the first week.

This backs up what he told Collider back in May, only now he has actual sales figures to back it up. In May Urban said:

“Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning.  It’s not off the agenda.  Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it.  It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen.  The power of fandom can resurrect projects.  In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek.  They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.”

I say a big fat yes to a sequel, but it is up to us, the fans, to continue to make our voices heard if we are ever hoping to see another Dredd film.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
