Johnny Depp is apparently in final talks for the sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, but this time will be directed by James Bobin (The Muppets), who is subbing for Burton.
Starring Johnny Depp (as The Mad Hatter) and Mia Wasikowska (as Alice), the 3D film grossed a massive $1 billion worldwide, and is even being developed into a musical by Disney Theatrical Prods, with Rob Ashford set to direct based on a script written by Linda Woolverton (who wrote Burton’s film).
The sequel is going by the working title ‘Into the Looking Glass’ and Woolverton is returning to write the film, while producers Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd are also returning.
There is no news on which of the cast will return, but it would be a no brainer for Depp to reprise his role of The Mad Hatter.
Deadline have also reported that the sequel is part of a relatively new multi-year deal between Depp and Disney that will allow him to produce movies at the studio.
