Finally, finally, finally!!! Director Joe Lynch’s awesome looking comedy, Knights of Badassdom, has been acquired for North American distribution by Entertainment One, which should hopefully kickstart distribution for the rest of the world. The film, which see’s a group of LARPers (Live Action Role Players) conjure up real demons in the woods by mistake, released its first trailer two years ago. Since then fans have been desperate to find out what has been going on with the film as things went very quiet after that.

Turns out all has not been well, and dodgy behind the scenes dealings has meant that director Joe Lynch no longer owns the film, and Wade Bradley, the owner of production company IndieVest, has made his own 70 minute cut of the film. Lynch was quizzed on the distribution deal on Twitter, responding with “Till I get a call… #NMC” Assuming NMC means Not My Cut, this may not be the version we are all hoping for, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

The Press Release:

  • Entertainment One (eOne) has acquired the North American distribution rights to the feature film KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM. The film stars Peter Dinklage, Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn and Summer Glau.
  • The film will be distributed in the US day and date in theaters and via VOD.
  • KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM is directed by Joe Lynch from a script by Kevin Dreyfuss and Matt Wall.  The film was produced by IndieVest Pictures’ Mark Burton and Matt Wall, and by Kevin Dreyfuss.  Daniel J. Heffner, Ketura Krestin, Rizwan Virk, Rich Cowan and Mike Elizalde executive produced.
  • In KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM, live-action role players (LARPERs) mistakenly conjure up a demon from Hell and must deal with the consequences.
  • Previous cast credits include: Peter Dinklage – “Game of Thrones,” X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST; Ryan Kwanten – “True Blood”; Steve Zahn – DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, A PERFECT GETAWAY; and Summer Glau – “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.”

The deal for the film was negotiated on behalf of IndieVest Pictures by Wade Bradley and for eOne by Sejin Croninger, Vice President, Worldwide Acquisitions.

Synopsis:

In this humorous fantasy adventure from IndieVest Pictures, Joe (Ryan Kwanten) is a heavy metal rocker who’s just gone through a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Beth (Margarita Levieva). His concerned roommates (Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage) kidnap him to their LARP (Live Action Role Playing) gathering, where he enters a realm of fantasy escapism in which pretend knights, elves, and barbarians clash with foam weaponry on a mock battlefield. When Joe’s “sorcerer” roommate (Zahn) inadvertently summons a deadly succubus that takes Beth’s seductive form, bloody reality crashes down upon their fantasy world. Once LARPers start to turn up dead, the make-believe wizards and warriors must become the real life heroes they have been pretending to be in order to conquer the evil that has been unleashed.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
