MGM’s ‘Poltergeist’ remake casts Rosemarie DeWitt as the lead

Production is set to begin soon on MGM and Fox’s remake of Tobe Hooper’s classic horror yarn, Poltergeist, and now the leading lady has been cast.

Rosemarie DeWitt has been cast as the films leading lady, and the hunt is now on to cast the male lead. DeWitt has been seen in TV series’ Mad Men and The Newsroom. Her film credits include Promised Land, The Watch, Your Sisters’s Sister, Touchy Feely and the upcoming Kill the Messenger.

Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) is set to direct from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, David Lindsay-Abaire (whose recent credits include “Oz: The Great and Powerful”). The film is being produced by Sam Raimi (“Evil Dead”) and Rob Tapert (“The Posession”) via Ghost House Pictures, along with Roy Lee (“The Strangers”). Nathan Kahane (“The Grudge”) will serve as executive producer.

In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.

“Poltergeist” is scheduled to begin production this Autumn.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
