Set photo, promo poster & featurette for sci-fi epic, Transcendence

Filming is underway for the new sci-fi epic, Transcendence, from Oscar winning cinematographer, Wally Pfister (Inception), and a set photo, promotional poster and international featurette have been released. The film focuses on a group of scientists who are trying to create the first computer enabled with self-awareness! One of the scientists, played by Johnny Depp, uploads his brain into a supercomputer, but is then subsequently killed. No other details have so far been released.

The film is being financed and produced by Alcon Entertainment’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, and co-financed by DMG Entertainment’s Dan Mintz, and will be released by Warner Bros. The film will also be produced by Straight Up Films’ Annie Marter, Marisa Polvino and Kate Cohen along with David Valdes. Pfister will direct from newcomer Jack Paglen’s screenplay, which was developed with Annie Marter, with the most recent draft by Noah Oppenheim. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers. Straight Up’s Regency Boies will co-produce.

Dan Mintz (DMG) was quoted by the L.A. Times saying that the movie “is about that moment when human consciousness and the insanely fast rise of computing power collide.” He added that the story is “more science reality than science fiction” alluding to the fact that this is something that could happen in our lifetimes, which is a sobering thought!

The film also stars Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Paul Bettany, Clifton Collins Jr., Cole Hauser, and Morgan Freeman.

Transcendence will be released on 18th April 2014.
