For all those J.J. Abrams Star Trek fans out there, you’ll be pleased to hear that according to Zachary Quinto (Spock), who recently attended the Galway Film Festival in Ireland, the next segment of the Star Trek franchise might begin filming next year!!! With the success of the most recent film Into Darkness, which grossed $444 million worldwide, Paramount Pictures are keen to get the next film rolling and begin production on Star Trek 3 as soon as. Rumours are also suggesting that Abrams will return again as director, but god knows how he’s going to manage to fit that in with Star Wars Episode VII scheduled.
Although Quinto said the shooting of Star Trek 3 is still yet to be confirmed, he was quoted saying this to Buzzhub: “Star Trek 3 should be filming, I suppose, next year. It’s going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That’s the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet”.
It would be such a shame if Abrams wasn’t able to direct the next segment due to his Star Wars commitment, particularly as he delivered the first two films so perfectly and were absolutely stunning, so we’ll just have to wait and see what emerges. Watch this space…..
