We all knew that The Sentinels would be featuring in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and now comes some teasers for the massive Mutant hunting robots.
A new viral video and a website for Trask Industries (the company who make the robots) have been unleashed by 20th Century Fox as we gear up for what will be a huge marketing campaign for the film. The video, embedded below, serves as an advertisement for Trask Industries, which is headed up by Bolivar Trask. We also recently learned that Trask will be played by Game of Thrones favourite Peter Dinklage.
The Sentinels themselves first briefly appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand when a massive head was seen next to Wolverine (below). However, they will dominate the future part of the new X-Men film, so it is very exciting to think we might be seeing robots three stories tall in the new film.
Here is how Variety describes the Sentinels: Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965, the robots were created to locate mutants and capture or kill them. In the comic books, the Sentinels are three-stories high, have the ability to fly and project energy blasts from their hands.
At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, the new design for the Sentinels was seen. A head of one of the robots was placed for all to see when X-Men landed at the event. We covered this story a few weeks back, and below you will find the image of the Sentinel head seen at Comic-Con.
To learn more about The Sentinels, head over the the newly opened Trask Industries website for tons more info. The website offers the following background description of the Sentinels:
“In 1973, Trask Industries introduced the first Sentinel production model, the Mark I. Bolivar Trask’s groundbreaking research in AI, robotics and autonomous ballistic systems laid the foundation for the world’s most capable anti-mutant defense system. Since the program’s inception, we’ve continued to advance our founder’s cause through eight additional generational upgrades and enhancements.
“As we celebrate five decades of achievement, we also bid farewell to regular production of the Mark I and shift our efforts to full-time manufacturing of the Mark X — our first complete overhaul of the Sentinel line. These highly anticipated units will combine next-generation nanotechnology and bioweapon breakthroughs, promising an even brighter future for the human race.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past is being written by Jane Goldman, Simon Kinberg and Matthew Vaughn and will see the newly formed titular team working to prevent an alternate future where mutants are hunted by giant machines called The Sentinels.
It follows the 1980s’ comic storyline written by Chris Claremont that alternates between a present day battle against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline where an assassination of a government official has led to Sentinels roaming the land and mutants held prisoner in internment camps.
The cast for X-Men: Days of Future Past includes: Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore, Josh Helman, Fan Bingbing and Booboo Stewart.
