Bong Joon-ho’ (The Host) Snowpiercer is currently topping the box office charts in South Korea, and has become the biggest film in it’s history. Congratulations then to director Joon-ho who held the previous record with his classic monster movie, The Host.
The film has been very heavily advertised in South Korea, and it is not surprising it has had such a push since it is also the most expensive film in the countries history too. When the film eventually makes its way to the rest of the world, we have been told that The Weinstein Company will be shredding twenty minutes off the running time.
Today see’s the release of three short but sweet featurettes for the film, each focusing on a main character. One of the featurettes is in Korean, but they all give us yet another good look at the stunning vision of Bong Joon-ho’s epic film.
Snowpiercer is written and directed by Bong Joon-ho (The Host, Memories of Murder)
The cast includes Song Kang-ho, Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris, Ewen Bremner, Octavia Spencer and Luke Pasqualino. Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Thirst, Stoker) produces.
The film opened on 1st August 2013 in South Korea, but no UK or US release date has been announced yet.
Synopsis:
Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
