Like most horror fans, I have absolutely zero interest in seeing a remake of Dario Argento’s masterpiece, Suspiria, and all I have wanted director David Gordon Green to do is give up on the idea.
Back in January came the welcome news that the remake was caught up in a legal battle which put the film on hold indefinitely, with Green commenting: “Suspiria is caught up in legal crap so who knows what will ever happen to that. That kind of falls into the ‘Confederacy Of Dunces’ category of ‘someday I’d like to make these movies’ that I was once attached to and worked on, but they may never happen”
Well, in an interview with Thompson on Hollywood, Green was asked about the Suspiria remake again, and his response was even more promising than the legal battle update. Here is what he said when asked “what’s going on with Suspiria?”
“Nothing. It’s just not the right time for that movie to exist. It’s a classy, elegant horror movie and people want to see things that are a little more raw, like found footage. Nobody’s really begging for something that’s elegant, classy and expensive”
No, it is not that people don’t want to see a classy and expensive horror, it is that horror fans DO NOT want to see such an untouchable work of genius like Suspiria remade. Now please, PLEASE Mr Green, can you just give up on this remake and move on to something, anything else. Forget about it, no one wants to see it, Argento himself wants nothing to do with it, so please just take the hint and leave it alone!
