The first teaser trailer has just landed on-line for director Mark Water’s adaptation of Richelle Meads first novel in the Vampire Academy series, and you know what, it is not all that bad.
The teaser trailer explains plenty of what the film will deliver in terms of characters, setting and atmosphere, and mixes comedy, sex and horror quite well. I was actually expecting a very teenage aimed trailer, and while we do actually get that, there is a cool darkness to this trailer as well and it is actually quite sexy in places too! Yeh, on the strengths of this first teaser, this doesn’t look too bad at all!
Mean Girls director Mark Waters directs the adaptation of the first book, and the film title has been changed from The Vampire Academy: Book One to The Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters, suggesting a proposed series of the popular books. Daniel Waters (Heathers, Batman Returns) adapted the script.
The film stars Zoey Deutch (Beautiful Creatures), and Australian newcomer Lucy Fry, who play lead characters Rose and Lissa alongside Russian star Danila Kozlovski (We Are From The Future,) who will play the role of Dimitri. The cast also includes Olga Kurylenko, Gabriel Byrne, Sarah Hyland, Joely Richardson, Cameron Monaghan, Sami Gayle, Claire Foy, and Ashley Charles. Michael Preger and his Preger Entertainment banner is producing with Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford, and Kintop Pictures’ Deepak Nayer. IM Global’s Stuart Ford is executive producer.
Here is the synopsis for the first book courtesy of Amazon:
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
