The first trailer for Nacho Vigalondo’s (Timecrimes) creative new horror thriller, Open Windows, is here and it is rather impressive. The high concept film, which stars Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey, looks mighty impressive by way of this Spanish trailer, so count me very excited!

Spanish director Nacho Vigalondo is the man responsible for the truly dazzling time travel headfuck, Timecrimes. He has also directed the yet to be released in the UK sci-fi Extraterrestrial and has also directed a segment for both The ABC’s of Death and The Profane Exhibit. Now the director has made the jump to an English language film with his latest work of brilliance, Open Windows.

The director has bagged himself an impressive cast too, including current horror golden boy Elijah Wood (who is also producing), Kill List’s Neil Maskell and porn star Sasha Grey. The film is presented in real time, and watches as Wood’s character searches for his missing girlfriend on-line, and Neil Maskell plays the villain who has abducted her.

Wild Bunch is co-producing with  Madrid based Enrique Lopez Lavigne and Belen Ateinza’s Apache’s Entertainment and Antena 3 Film, and sales are being launched at this weeks AFM. Elijah Wood’s production company Woodshed, Basque broadcaster ETB, and Canal Plus are associated partners.

Open Windows develops in real time, delivering 90 minutes of suspense in a tense, fast-paced, high-tech thriller with action and terror, updating the key elements of 70s paranoid thrillers through today’s computer and online environment,” said Wild Bunch sales chief Vincent Maraval.

The plot revolves around a desperate search by Wood’s character for an actress, played by The Girlfriend Experience lead Sasha Grey, who has been abducted by vicious villain Chord, played by British actor Neil Maskell.

Director Vigalondo said of the film:

“Just as in Brian De Palma’s Blow Out, the girl is captured. The hero will have to use every means at his disposal to discover where she is and rescue her from the villain before its too late,” said Vigalondo. “The action will be followed on the screen of a laptop connected to the Internet – an approach that has excited us all from the outset. Something like this means going beyond high concept films like Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield or Chronicle,” he continued. “Instead of simulating a home video camera, we will be representing a computer desktop. The movie screen becomes a computer screen, and the spectator becomes the protagonist of this adventure.”

Spanish producer Lavigne revealed the production would use 12 different types of camera, including webcams, head cameras, tablets, mobile phones, 3D mapping cameras as well as security and satellite cameras to shoot the multi-format picture.

“Open Windows is full of twists, but it’s essentially a 90-minute chase, a continuous climax with unrelenting tension… it is also a powerful viral tool, with a wide potential for different audiences,” he said.

Coffin Baby:

Also just released is the trailer for director Dean Jones’ Coffin Baby, which is a sequel to Tobe Hooper’s remake of Dennis Donnelly’s 1978 horror, The Toolbox Murders.

Director Dean Jones sequel takes place directly after the events of Tobe Hoopers remake, only this time the violence and nastiness are even stronger. The film goes more in depth into the ‘Toolbox Killers (TBK) mind as he kidnaps a young girl with a plan to punish and torture her into submission so that she comes to rely on him. To make matters worse, he also brings home other girls and murders them in front of his captive.

Synopsis:

A blood-soaked screamer from the co-creator of horror movie icon The Toolbox Killer, veteran creature-makeup artist/scare-FX master Dean Jones (X-Men: First Class, Star Trek: TNG, Day of The Dead). His directorial debut COFFIN BABY is the twisted tale of the psychotic TB Killer’s origins.

A young woman is imprisoned and tortured at the hands of the most violent homicidal maniac in the city’s history. Escape is impossible, and the body count piles up as he dispatches scores of innocents to fuel his bloodlust — while forcing her to watch! It is only by her sheer will to live that she can hope to survive this ordeal.

The film stars Brian Krause, Bruce Dern, Ethan Phillips, Chauntal Lewis, Allison Kyler and Christopher Doyle as the vicious Toolbox Killer.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
