Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby) is set to make his directorial debut with film Weirdo, with producer Rebecca Yeldham.
Screen Daily reports that the film is due to commence filming in California next years and is “about a guy who is forced to face the past when it comes back in the form of an old school friend, but he continually lies about it (the past) and it haunts him in a bad bad way … Weirdo is a very contained film: five or six locations and six characters … We have people interested in financing subject to casting and we’re playing that game now … I’ll play a supporting role and I will bring the post home.”
Edgerton wrote the script, which will be his forth after writing The Square, Felony and The Rover.
One of his scripts, Felony, is currently at the Toronto International Film Festival, directed by Matt Saville, with the film having its world premiere tomorrow . Edgerton plays the lead role of Malcolm in the film, a police officer in hot water.
