‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ delayed indefinitely

Oh dear oh dear, filming was set to begin on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones sequel, City of Ashes, in a few months time but principal photography has been shut down, indefinitely.

The Harald Zwart directed City of Bones was considered a box office disaster, pulling in only $58 million worldwide to a budget of $60 million. Zwart was due to return and direct the sequel, but now Constantin Films have put the sequel on hold.

“Constantin Film has a long tradition of adapting books to the big screen. Pushing back the start of production of City of Ashes was a decision we did not take lightly,” producer and Constantin exec Martin Moszkowicz said in the press release announcing the delay. “After speaking with all of our partners on the creative and distribution side, it was clear that it will be beneficial to have more time to reposition the film in the current market place.”

He continued “‘The Mortal Instruments’ series has an incredibly loyal and ardent fan base and is a bestselling book series. While taking Cassandra Clare’s vision to the screen, we want to make sure to draw on the full potential of the franchise.”

Stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Kevin Zegers had signed on to return, while Sigourney Weaver had also been expected to join the ensemble.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
