TIFF: Ti West’s highly praised new horror, ‘The Sacrament’, acquired by Magnet Releasing

Ti West’s new tale of terror, The Sacrament, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and critics have been raving about its brilliance. I expected nothing less than brilliance from the director of House of the Devil and The Innkeepers, and now the film has bagged itself a distributor!

Magnet Releasing closed a deal earlier today. Per their Facebook page:

BREAKING NEWS! We have just acquired The Sacrament from The House of the Devil & The Innkeepers Director Ti West and Producer Eli Roth (Director – Hostel 1 & 2, Cabin Fever). Starring Joe Swanberg (Director – V/H/S & Drinking Buddies) & AJ Bowen (You’re Next).

Follows a group of journalists shooting a doc about a man’s attempt to locate his missing sister. They find her in a rural cult preparing for a mass suicide.

The Sacrament is directed by West (The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers, V/H/S), and produced by Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever, The Last Exorcism, Aftershock, The Green Inferno). The cast includes Joe Swanberg (V/H/S, You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die), AJ Bowen (You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die, The House of the Devil, The Signal), Kentucker Audley (V/H/S), Amy Seimetz (You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die, Tiny Furniture) and Gene Jones (No Country for Old Men).

The Sacrament follows two Vice media correspondents as they set out to document their friend’s search to find his missing sister. They travel outside of the United States to an undisclosed location where they are welcomed into the world of “Eden Parish,” a self-sustained rural utopia comprised of nearly 200 members. At the centre of this small, religious, socialist community is a mysterious leader known only as “Father.” As their friend reunites with his sister, it becomes apparent to the newcomers that this paradise may not be as it seems. What started as just another documentary shoot soon becomes a race to escape with their lives.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
