If you thought Sharknado was the peak of all things shark related, then think again. While we already know that Sharknado 2 is on the way, and will no doubt be awesome, there are two more shark related stories coming from the wonderful Asylum and SyFy channel. Brace yourselves for the movie Avalanche Sharks, and the novel Sharcano (which will no doubt be adapted into a movie very soon!).

First up is Avalanche Sharks, and not only do we have a full description for the film, but we also have the first action packed trailer (courtesy of Fangoria). I must say, while it probably won’t match the brilliance of Sharknado, Avalanche Sharks looks a blast, and will no doubt be a rehash of Sand Sharks, only in the snow!

Avalanche Sharks is directed by Scott Wheeler, and written by Keith Shaw. The cast includes Kate Nauta, Emily Addison, Jack Cullison, Mika Brooks, Erika Jordan, Eric Scott Woods, Erin Ross and Alexander Mendeluk.

Synopsis:

After a horrific avalanche, the staff at Twin Pines Ski Resort starts to receive reports of missing people and creatures that move beneath the snow. As the body count piles up, the management tries to cover up the situation, which leads to disaster on their busiest day of the year: Bikini Snow Day.

Spring break in the mountains: snowboarding, beer, drunken co-eds in bikinis. As the yearly Bikini Ski Day party descends on a small mountain town, something lurks beneath the snow. When an unwitting rider causes an avalanche, it awakens a huge, menacing, prehistoric Snow Shark! With a newfound taste for human flesh, the Snow Shark picks off the snow bunnies mercilessly. Cut off from help by mountainous terrain and blinding snow, the local sheriff must make an unlikely alliance with a motley crew of snowboarders to take down the Snow Shark before the white hills run red with blood!

Sharcano:

Next up is a new novel being written by former Shock Till You Drop contributor Jose Prendes. Inspired, naturally, by Sharknado, the writer of The Asylum’s The Haunting of Whaley House has written a novel called Sharcano!

Now, while a tornado with sharks in is totally insane, a volcano with sharks in is just madness, and I can’t wait for it. The novel is due to be released  on January 27th by Curiosity Quills Press, but the question on everyone’s minds is “when will The Asylum buy the movie rights”. Soon I hope.

Sharcano is about about a reporter, a marine biologist, and a billionaire industrialist who have to join forces to save the world when a trio of erupting volcanoes unleash fire-breathing sharks made of lava.

Prendes describes the novel:

“The idea was to write a big, epic Syfy channel-style story but not worry about budget and silly script notes and pull out all the stops,” says Prendes. “Imagine the best possible version of a sharks-run-amok story, and that is what I tried to deliver. While the concept is admittedly cheesy, I made sure the consequences were real and the characters felt like human beings and not cookie-cutter cliches. I wanted to write THE STAND meets JAWS, and damn did I have a hell of a lot of fun along the way!”

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
