A couple of months ago, we found out that that visionary director James Cameron was working on not two but three sequels to his epic sci-fi, Avatar and that he has hired Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) to help write Avatar 2.
Sam Worthington, who played Jake Sully in the original, has now provided yet another update on when filming might begin for Avatar 2 including a few other tasty details. Speaking on an Australian radio show (via Yahoo UK), Worthington said filming is expected to commence in October 2014 and that much of the writing process for the sequel has been completed by Cameron.
Worthington also said that Cameron was currently involved in a lot of pre-production preparation and that he was metaphorically “building the ship to Pandora”, implying prep work on the film rather than physically, whatever that’s supposed to mean!!!
The plan is to shoot Avatar 2 & 3 back to back, and the fourth movie following later and Fox has officially announced that the first sequel will hit cinemas in December 2016. Worthington also confirmed to the radio show that once filming on the Avatar sequel begins, all three sequels will be filmed in their entirety within a year of the beginning of the production. Pretty intensive then and all rounded off by December 2018!!
Casting is still unclear for the quadrilogy, with a previous rumour flying around that Arnold Schwarzenegger would have a part, which has now been dismissed, and according to Worthington, Cameron will already have a clear idea which characters, and subsequent actors, will return to the sequel.
