Yesterday came the really upsetting news that Evil Dead reboot director Fede Alvarez, plus writer Rodo Sayagues, were no longer involved in the sequel. However, Bloody Disgusting immediately contacted Alvarez for confirmation, and it would appear that what Sayagues told Gorosito.TV got slightly lost in translation.
Yesterday we reported the devastating news, and here is what was reportedly said by Sayagues:
“Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.”
BD spoke with Alvarez who told the site “stuff got lost in translation” What he did confirm though, was that Army of Darkness 2 was the priority right now, but he followed that with an explanation of Sayagues comments: “Rodo meant we’re not actually making ‘Evil Dead 2? right now because the priority is Sam’s ‘Army of Darkness 2.’ But the plan of making a sequel to our ‘Evil Dead’ is very much alive.”
We can now all breathe again, and relax knowing that not only is Army of Darkness 2 a priority, but Evil Dead 2 is also 100% going to happen, with Alvarez in charge! Hurrah! Happy God damned Halloween!!!
