Take this as your first and only warning, Michael Bay, director of such films as Transformers, Pain and Gain, Armageddon, The Rock, Bad Boys and The Island, wants to direct a horror film. You can either be excited about that, or very worried, your choice, but what is concerning is how his statement came to pass.
A recent article in The Hollywood Reporter listed the top twenty current Masters of Horror, and for some God forsaken reason, Michael Bay was included in that list. I am guessing it is due to his company Platinum Dunes remaking every horror classic under the sun, and with remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hitcher, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and The Amityville Horor in the company’s resume, plus original horrors like The Unborn and The Purge, this gives Bay the right to be called a Master of Horror. Yeah right!
Anyway, he was asked about his inclusion in the list by THR, and he included this worrying piece of information in his response:
“I have a great fantasy — that I will probably make a reality — of directing my own self-financed horror movie,” said Bay, adding, “I love this genre because the movie is the star.”
Mmm, take from that what you will, but I am not convinced.
