Of the two action films based around The White House being attacked this year, Olympus Has Fallen was the best. White House Down was awful, but Olympus Has Fallen was better, slightly. However, taking a respectable $161 million worldwide (White House Down managed $204 million, but cost a lot more!), it would seem that these figures have allowed for a sequel, this time based in London!
The pitch for London Has Fallen will be taken to the American Film Market, and plans are in place for Gerard Butler,Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, and Radha Mitchell to return to the roles they played in the first film.
Screen Daily reports the news, and says that Millennium Films will be producing, and Focus Features intend to distribute the sequel in the US. However, it is not likely that original director, Antoine Fuqua, will return because he is currently in post-production on the Denzel Washington starring thriller, The Equalizer.
London Has Fallen will revolve around a plot that see’s London the target of a terrorist attack during the funeral of the Prime Minister.
