Anyone who has seen the original will understand the relevance of dumplings in Oldboy and a viral clip has been released of the infamous octopus scene, from the original Park Chan-wook version, that has been included in the remake. Check it out below.
In addition, as part of the Oldboy remake marketing campaign, Film District are holding a competition for one lucky winner to get their hands on the hammer that Brolin wields when returning to the prison where he was held for two decades.
Here are the instructions:
For a chance to win the actual hammer used by John Brolin’s character in the film, tweet us (@FilmDistrict) a photo of a dumpling at your favourite local dumpling spot with the hashtag #eattheclues. The contest ends on October 20th and a randomly chosen winner will be selected the following day on October 21st.
Spike Lee directs the remake which is based on Park Chan-wook’s second film in his superb ‘Vengeance Trilogy’ (starting with Sympathy For Mr Vengeance and ending with Lady Vengeance). The cast includes Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson and Sharlto Copley.
Oldboy arrives in US cinemas 27th November, and in UK cinemas 6th December.
OLDBOY follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor’s motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an elusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.
