Paramount have set a date for the return of Jason Vorhees, and that date will be March 13th 2015, which just so happens to be Friday the 13th!
The announcement was made by Exhibitor Relations on Twitter, who also state that the new horror is not a sequel to the remake, a sequel to the original series, a prequel or anything else. It is simply another reboot, or so they say. How much we should believe this I don’t know, so its best to wait for Paramounts further announcements as to what exactly the new film is.
There have been plenty of rumours that the new Friday the 13th film is expected to go down the found footage route, but as yet these are all just rumours (although it would be pretty cool).
No director has been confirmed, and no cast (including Derek Mears as Vorhees) have been chosen, but at least Paramount now have a date to aim for. They got their beloved franchise back from Warner Brothers earlier this year in a deal that saw Paramount give Warners Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, in exchange for the rights back for Friday the 13th.
Also while not 100% confirmed, it sounds like Platinum Dunes (who produced the 2009 remake) are onboard to produce.
