Horror casting news: Bill Moseley joins ‘The Summer I Died’, Leigh Whannell joins ‘Home Invasion’

Anyone who is a fan of the horror genre will know the name Bill Moseley. He rose to fame in the genre by appearing as ‘Crop-Top’ Sawyer in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 way back in 1986, and more recently has appeared in Rob Zombies House of 1000 Corpses, Devil’s Rejects and Halloween. Moseley also appeared in the intriguing and brilliant horror Exit Humanity, and if you check his IMDB page, he has plenty more films in the works.

He has now signed on to star as ‘Skinny Man’ in a movie adaptation of the novel The Summer I Died by Ryan C. Thomas. Naturally, Moseley will be playing a mad man.

The press release states that Riothouse Entertainment recently closed a deal to acquire the film rights to Ryan C. Thomas’ novel The Summer I Died. Bill Moseley will play the villainous role of Skinny Man in this coming of age story about two friends who cross paths with the lunatic while trying to rescue a woman in desperate need of help.

The film version is to be directed by Eric Pereira (American Girls) from a screenplay penned by the book’s author Ryan. C. Thomas. Matthew Easton and David Lukan will handle producing duties.

The book, which has gained notoriety over the years as being one of the most violent and disturbing novels ever written, has found itself on numerous top 10 lists and has since amassed a significant cult following. The sequel “Born to Bleed” was released in 2011 with the third book in the trilogy being released this summer.

Shooting is expected to begin late February in New Hampshire and Los Angeles.

Also just announced is that Leigh Whannell (writer of Saw and Insidious), who has appeared in a number of horror films including Saw, Insidious, Death Sentence and Dying Breed, has signed on for an unknown role in Sean Carter’s Home Invasion. The only thing known of Whannell’s role is that he plays a mysterious guest who arrives at the home of a family under attack by intruders.

Chandler Riggs (Walking Dead) and Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four) joined the cast a short while ago, and they joined the already cast Bella Thorne and Natalie Martinez.

The script has been written by Joseph Dembner and the story “focuses on a family imprisoned in their own home by intruders who play a life-and-death game in which the mysterious rules become clear as the night unfolds.”

Riggs and Thorne play the siblings and Gruffudd will play the father to Martinez’s stepmother.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
