The sexy actress Gal Gadot (above) who played Gisele in the last three Fast & Furious movies, has been cast as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s Batman vs Superman.
It has not been made clear exactly how big a role Wonder Woman will be playing in the film, but this is a big moment for the character who has only appeared in a live version once before. This will be Wonder Woman’s first appearance in a feature film, but she has appeared as a live character in the 1975 television series starring Lynda Carter. The show ran for a total of 60 episodes before coming to an end in 1979.
Nothing has been said about what will happen with Wonder Woman after her appearance in Batman vs Superman, but is is extremely likely she will appear in the upcoming Justice League movie, and there are also plans for a TV series of the character, and no doubt a stand alone film is being planned too.
Zack Snyder confirmed the casting news:
“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”
In addition to Gadot other actresses who were looked at for the part included Olga Kurylenko of Quantum of Solace, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Elodie Yung.
While Wonder Woman’s casting has been confirmed, there is also the issue of who will be playing the villain in Snyder’s film, and indeed who that villain will be. Now, while we all know that eventually Batman and Superman will be fighting each other, the film will also have a main villain, and rumours are circulating that Callan Mulvey (above, 300: Rise of an Empire) is up for the role.
While also not exactly a household name, Mulvey has appeared in Zero Dark Thirty, and has much bigger roles in the upcoming sequels 300: Rise of an Empire and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. According to a report, Warner Brothers are “eyeing” Mulvey for the main villain role.
However, Snyder and Warners are keeping tight lipped on who exactly the villain will be. But rumours have been generating that Doomsday will be the big bad guy in the film. Doomsday is a villain more associated with Superman.
In the comics, Doomsday is basically a force of nature. His origins lie in prehistoric Krypton, where he was left to fend for himself as a humanoid infant by an alien scientist. After being repeatedly killed by the harsh Krypton environment, the scientist continued to clone his genes until Doomsday became an evolutionarily perfect killing machine.
The film, from director Zack Snyder, brings together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time—Superman and Batman—for the first time on the big screen. Production on the new film is expected to begin in metro Detroit and throughout Michigan sometime in the first quarter of 2014. Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who is writing the screenplay. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing the film, which will star Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.
Batman vs Superman is due in cinemas on July 17th 2015.
