I don’t think anyone saw this coming, but out of the blue X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer has announced a new X-Men film. Whether the new film will follow on directly from the events of Days of Future Past is unclear, and all we have right now is a title and a release date.
The film is called X-Men: Apocalypse, and Singer Tweeted that the film will be arriving in 2016. Exhibitor Relations then followed Singer’s Tweet with a confirmation of the films release date, May 27th 2016.

@GermainLussier This is Fox’s official word (word for word): X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will open, in wide release, on May 27, 2016.

These announcements have come out of nowhere, and naturally there are no plot or cast details to share with you. However, if the title is any indication as to what the film will be about, it could mean that the X-Men will be having some troubles with one bastard of a villain: Apocalypse.
Comic Vine describe the once 3rd ranked Marvel villain as:
One of the very first mutants, Apocalypse is both thousands of years old and a monstrous tyrant that has been a longtime foe of the X-Men. Apocalypse believes that only the strongest (whether mutant or superhuman) should survive. His body is a mix of organics and powerful celestial technology.
Hopefully there will be little more information on this very soon.
