Director John Michael McDonagh followed in his brothers footsteps with the excellent black comedy, The Guard. His brother, Martin, was responsible for the superb In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, and also executive produced The Guard. The Guard starred Brendan Gleeson as a local Irish cop with a very odd way of doing things, and the film was hilarious.

Now Gleeson and McDonagh are back with a new film, which looks less comedic than The Guard, called Calvary. The film has been added to the Sundance Film Festivals line-up, and will land in UK cinemas on April 11th 2014.

The first trailer has just been released, and we have it for you below. I am sure you’ll agree that this film should be added to your must-see list.

Calvary is written and directed by John Michael McDonagh, and Brendan Gleeson heads up the cast, which includes: Kelly Reilly, Domhnall Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd, Aidan Gillen, Dylan Moran and Marie-Josee Croze.

Synopsis:

Calvary is a blackly comedic drama about a priest tormented by his community. Father James is a good man intent on making the world a better place. When his life is threatened one day during confession, he finds he has to battle the dark forces closing in around him.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
