Director Spike Jonze (Where the Wild Things Are, Being John Malkovich) is back with a new love story called Her. We have already shared the films first trailer a few months back, but now the film has had its world premiere, which was extremely well received, and Warner Brothers are gearing up for the films release.
Arriving in select US cinemas on December 18th, the film then gets a wider release on January 10th, and makes its way to UK cinemas on January 24th.
The film centers on Phoenix as Theodore, a lonely, divorced writer who falls in love with a computer programme. Judging by the trailer, the film will deliver comedy, romance and emotion on equal measure, in only a way Jonze can provide.
What is also very exciting is that Arcade Fire (one of my favourite bands) will be providing the soundtrack for the film. The Canadian band also wrote an acoustic version of their classic ‘Wake Up’ for Where the Wild Things Are, and Jonze himself directed the bands thirty minute short film, The Suburbs. Arcade Fire’s gorgeous Supersymmetry accompanies the trailer.
Her is written and directed by Spike Jonze, and the cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, Chris Pratt and Sam Jaegar.
Set in Los Angeles, slightly in the future, “her” follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha,” a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature—and the risks—of intimacy in the modern world.
