The fifth film in the popular Bourne franchise will arrive on August 14th 2015, according to a statement by Universal. This puts the fifth Bourne film right in the middle of one of the busiest years ever for movie releases, and also puts the film in direct competition with The Smurfs 3.
Justin Lin, who directed the last four Fast & Furious films, will make his debut to the Bourne franchise as director. Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as Aaron Cross.
Longtime “Bourne” produce Frank Marshall also returns to produce along with Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate. Lin will also produce for his Perfect Storm Entertainment shingle. The previous film in the series, “The Bourne Legacy,” was released last year and culled $276 million worldwide.
Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) is penning the screenplay, making this the first Bourne film not written by Tony Gilroy.
Lucy
Universal also announced that Luc Besson’s assassin thriller, Lucy, will be released on August 8th 2014.
