Still with no official title, The Purge 2 will be released in US cinemas on June 20th. James DeMonaco, who directed the first film, is returning as director for the sequel, and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse production company have released the below teaser poster counting down the days to the films release.
The full cast for The Purge 2 includes Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Carmen Ejogo, Jasper Cole, Zoe Borde, Chad Morgan, and Kiele Sanchez.
DeMonaco will also write the sequel, with Jason Blum producing for Blumhouse, and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes also producing. Universal will distribute.
While no plot details have been released, Grillo is expected to be playing the same sort of character Ethan Hawke played in the first film, protecting his family from the violence that comes from the yearly Purge. Grillo is a good choice of tough guy actor, and should do a good job in the film.
In the original film, The Purge was a 12 hour yearly event where people could vent their inner angers and do whatever they wanted, with no fear of consequences. The idea was brilliant, but the film was simply a home invasion movie with a story about morals, yet it could have been so much more. Hopefully the sequel will take note of some of the negative reviews and deliver the type of film we should have had in the first place, with much more extreme violence, and a larger scale event not just confined to one house.
