James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ reveals first official image and full synopsis

Marvel’s lesser known heroes, Guardians of the Galaxy, has been a bit of a mystery over the past year, with just small casting updates trickling through (although the cast is very impressive). The high risk, space-based superhero film is directed by James Gunn (Slither), and is set to be one of the years most interesting superhero films.

While they are not exactly top of everyones list of popular superheroes, the Guardians of the Galaxy just might become Marvel most exciting prospect, and now with the film in post-production and preparing for its August 1st 2014 release date, the first official image has been released by Disney. To go with the image also comes (finally) the official synopsis to give you a better idea of what to expect.

You will notice the official image (below) mirrors the concept art (above) shown at Comic-Con earlier this year.

Guardians of the Galaxy is written and directed by James Gunn, and the cast includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, Peter Serafinowicz, and Benicio Del Toro.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy.  An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe.  To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.  But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.  Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
