A number of brief bits of casting news were announced over the weekend, all horror related.
Star of Curse of Chucky and also seen in True Blood, Fiona Dourif above) added another horror film to her list of upcoming films (which also includes the Robert Englund starring Fear Clinic). Dourif is set to star in Origami Fix, a psychological thriller in the vein of Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan and David Fincher’s The Game.
Written and directed by Stuart Sauvarin, Dourif will play Brea, a young girl seeking revenge in the aftermath of death as the world around her unravels, revealing horrifying secrets about her life and family.
Jessica Alba (above) has signed on to star in Phil Joanou’s (Final Analysis, Gridiron Gang) The Veil, the latest low budget supernatural horror from Jason Blum’s Blumhouse productions.
Thomas Jane was announced as leading the cast a few days ago.
Shooting is expected to begin in April.
The story springs from the real-world headlines of religious cults and mass suicides. With Veil, it begins thirty years ago, when members of a religious cult known as Heaven’s Veil take their own lives. The truth behind what really happened remains buried deep in the memory of the sole survivor, a five-year-old girl, who returns to the compound with a documentary crew as an adult. They soon discover something that is far more terrifying than anything they could have imagined.
Alba will play the documentary filmmaker who accompanies the survivor back to the compound to investigate what really happened.
Lauren Ashley Carter (above, Jug Face) is set to star in Mickey Keating’s (Ritual, Ultra Violence) intense new horror, Pod.
Carter will star alongside Dean Cates (Ritual), and Brian Morvant (The Den) as “three siblings whose family ties are severed by a horrific discovery in their isolated lake house.”
ShockTillYouDrop are saying: the film is being described as an ensemble family drama that goes horrifically awry in the snowy confines of an isolated lake house. Keating tells the site, “It’s a paranoid and violent nod to the original ‘Twilight Zone’ series, Frankenheimer’s Manchurian Candidate, and The Andromeda Strain.”
Finally, Dylan Minnette (Prisoners, Let Me In, TV series Awake) has been cast as the co-lead in the upcoming adaptation of Goosebumps.
Dylan Minnette has been cast as the co-lead in Sony Pictures’ Goosebumps, the adaptation of the iconic Scholastic YA scary book series written by R.L. Stine. Sony nabbed the rights to the books and tapped Black’s Gulliver’s Travels helmer Rob Letterman to direct last March.
The pic is loosely based on the series and is scripted by Darren Lemke and gooseMike White. Minnette will play Zach Cooper, who moves with his family move from NY to to the idyllic town of Greendale, MD, where his secretive new neighbor turns out to be author R.L. Stine (Black). When the many, many demons in Stine’s mind are set free by Slappy, a demonic ventriloquist’s dummy, it’s up to Zach and Stine’s niece Hannah (Odeya Rush) to put the evil genies back in the bottle.
