News in today is that Joel Edgerton has signed back on to play corrupt FBI Agent John Connolly in Scott Cooper’s Black Mass.
The film tells the story of notorious Boston mob boss, Whitey Bulger, played by Johnny Depp, and how he amassed his power with the help of his childhood friend Connolly by turning informant on rival operations, and then being warned by Connolly when the feds were closing in.
Edgerton signed on to feature in the film almost a year ago, and after Depp dropped out, he left afterwards. Depp then confirmed about 3 weeks ago that he had rejoined, and there was a rumour that Tom Hardy might star as the role of Connolly.
Deadline have now reported that Edgerton will indeed play the part.
Production is due to commence in two months in Boston, and the film is being slated for an October 2015 release.
