Maniac remake director to helm new found footage ‘Amityville’ horror?

The found footage horror film formerly known as The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes, has been in development for a few years now. Late in December last year the film was re-titled as simply Amityville, and a release date was set for January 2nd 2015 in the US.

However, there was no director to take charge of the film, but now it appears that one may have been found. Bloody Disgusting have revealed that Franck Khalfoun, director of the superb Maniac remake, and also P2, is in talks to direct Amityville for Dimension Films, with Blumhouse producing.

The site reports they were told the film is already in pre-production, although we have yet to confirm. This would mean that casting is currently underway.

Amityville is produced by Jason Blum, Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Bob and Harvey Weinstein are Executive Producers. Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands wrote the script.

Synopsis:

Amityville showcases the events after the time of the original ‘The Amityville Horror’ book and movie through found footage dating back to 1976. An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror … only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
