‘Terminator: Genesis’ will have same feel as Terminator 2, it’s big! Shooting starts in April. So says Schwarzenegger

Fans of Terminator rejoice, for it sounds like Game of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor knows his audience, and wants to give them a Terminator film to love.

In an interview with Collider while promoting his new film Sabotage, Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke of the feel of the new Terminator film, which is currently titled Terminator: Genesis. He also spoke of his amazement of being able to play a role in a franchise he started thirty years ago. Arnie also spoke of the films title, possible rating and promised some major action in the new film.

Collider:  What made you decide to return to the Terminator franchise, and what can fans of the franchise expect from it, this time around?

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER:  “I think that it’s just so wild to have a franchise that has been around for that long, and then after 30 years, to get asked again to be the only character in a movie that is the same character is unheard of, in movie history.  You always switch out, like with James Bond and Batman.  They have new characters there.  But, not here.  That, to me, is an extraordinary situation and a great opportunity.  Of course, I was honored when I was asked to come back and play the character with Sarah Connor”

Have they told you whether Terminator will be a PG-13 or an R?

SCHWARZENEGGER:  No.  I don’t know.

Will it actually be called Terminator: Genesis?

SCHWARZENEGGER:  “I don’t know what the final title is going to be.  As you can see with Sabotage, when I read the script, it was called Ten.  You never know.  Today, studios switch titles because everything has been tested.  They’ll give an audience five titles, and then they’ll pick one.  But Terminator is going to have the exact same feel.  The way it reads, it has the same feel of Terminator 2.  It’s big.  There’s hardcore action and it has some really great visual effects in there, but not over the top.  It’s not a Thor type of movie, even though it’s the same director.  It has good special effects, but just enough to say, “Wow, where did that come from?  How did they do that?”

When do you start shooting?

SCHWARZENEGGER:  “We start shooting at the end of April in New Orleans”

Terminator: Genesis will be directed by Alan Taylor. The cast so far includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke as John Connor and J.K. Simmons.

Terminator: Genesis is being spearheaded by Skydance Productions’ David Ellison, who is teamed with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna in the effort. Paramount has signed on to distribute, and has set a July 1, 2015 release date. Annapurna purchased the rights for over $20 million and the expectation is that they will be able to make at least two films before certain copyrights revert back to the property’s creator, James Cameron. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier wrote the script.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
