Here is some very brief news on The Blair Witch Project 3, and while this probably means absolutely nothing, the fact a third film is still being talked about is good enough for me. For starters, the idea that a third film could be made to finally put the horrific embarrassment of Book of Shadows to rest, is reason alone to be excited!
I adored The Blair Witch Project, and while I understand that original directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick have discussed a third film for years, Sanchez recently revealed to Movies.com that there is a possibility of the sequel moving forward.
Sanchez is back working with Lionsgate on his new found footage Bigfoot horror, Exists, and just being back with the production company has got him optimistic.
“You know, Lionsgate owns the property, so it’s obviously up to them right now. We’ve been talking to them for the past four or five years about doing it, but there’s nothing really in the works right now with us. But I think you’re right and maybe just being back at Lionsgate will help move things forward on another Blair Witch movie”
Sanchez also revealed that a third film would be very different to the original:
“We never imagined doing another Blair Witch found-footage movie,” he said. “Our plan for the sequel is definitely not doing a found-footage movie. It took a while for people to just figure out whatBlair had done; I’m not sure why. The film was so experimental and kind of came out of nowhere so people didn’t know what to think of it and weren’t sure if that style could be repeated”
More developments as they happen.
