Director confirmed for ‘Sinister’ sequel

Director Scott Derrickson’s superb horror, Sinister, was one of the highlights of 2012 and I am very happy that a second film is being made. Derrickson also co-wrote the first film with C. Robert Cargill.

The sequel, however, will not see Derrickson return to the director’s chair, but he will return to both co-write the sequel, again with Cargill, and also produce with Jason Blum (who produced the first film). Blum will work his low budget high profit magic on the new film, but who will be directing I hear you ask?

Step forward Ciaran Foy, director of the said to be excellent Irish horror Citadel. I have not seen the film yet, and I am very upset about that, but our very own Bat has seen it and was quite impressed. You can read the review here.

Sinister 2 will mark Foy’s first big film as Citadel was his feature length debut, so I wish him all the best with his venture into bigger things, and on the evidence of what reviews were saying about Citadel, Foy is a good choice of director.

Naturally with Derrickson returning to write and produce, and Blum once again involved, Sinister 2 is a very exciting project indeed.

The confirmation of Foy directing was announced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse through Twitter:

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
