The first trailer for a rather excellent looking gangster thriller has been released by Fox Searchlight, and The Drop has a lot of positive points going for it.
First and foremost, this is the late James Gandolfini’s final film, so that alone is a reason to watch it. However, add to the cast the intense Tom Hardy and the always excellent Noomi Rapace, and you have yourself a top notch cast. Then there is the director, Michael R. Roskam, who directed Bullhead, and also Gone Baby Gone writer Dennis Lehane adapted the script from his own short story. Plenty of reasons to be excited, and let’s also not forget that this is a gangster thriller, and we all love a good gangster thriller!
The Drop will be released in UK cinemas on November 14th.
Synopsis:
THE DROP is a new crime drama from Michaël R. Roskam, the Academy Award-nominated director of BULLHEAD. Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.
Look at this cast; 😉 I’m in! Hardy’s the man!
