Insidious: Chapter 3 is on the way, and what we know for definite is that the film is due for release on April 3rd 2015. No director has been confirmed, but Leigh Whannell (writer of Saw, Insidious, Insidious: Chapter II) who played Specs in both films, will be writing the third film.
There is not exactly a lot to reveal here, but it is nice to know that things are moving forward. Whannell revealed the following update on Twitter:
Insidious 3 is a lot more like part one than two. I’m working on it right now, so thought I’d tell those who care where it’s headed.

Whannell and Angus Sampson are expected to return as Specs and Tucker, and also Lin Shaye is expected to reprise her role of Elise Rainier.
It is also unclear if Wan will be returning to direct, and the expectancy is that he won’t be. Announcing he is “done with horror” last year, it is doubtful he will be back for a third Insidious film.
Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Prods., which produced both “Insidious” films, is also on board to produce the third installment along with Oren Peli. Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman and Xavier Marchand are exec producing.
